Sound pressure level (SPL)

A siren signal should have a sound pressure level of at least 66 dB SPL outdoors. Since levels below 66 dB SPL are often no longer perceived inside buildings, a level of at least 71 dB SPL should be aimed for.

In any case, the siren level should be at least 10 dB above the average of the existing ambient noise.

The maximum permissible sound level exposure time per day is specified by law.
